We have three purpose-built extra care schemes in Stoke-on-Trent – Willow Barns at Blurton, Oak Priory at Abbey Hulton and Maple West in Chell.
Each scheme is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI), built in partnership with us, Eric Wright Group and Kajima Partnerships in a consortium called Sapphire. There are 390 apartments over three sites and the homes are managed by us on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Each scheme has a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, with an open plan lounge, fitted kitchen and level access shower room. For added security, there’s a 24-hour emergency alarm system, activated by a pull cord or pendant. A fire alarm and water misting system are also fitted in each apartment.
There’s a variety of on-site facilities for residents to enjoy, including:
- communal lounge
- residents only private lounge
- hair/beauty salon
- wellbeing suite including gym
- library and IT suite
- hobby and craft room
- residents’ laundry
- reception
- village hall*
- guest bedrooms*
- care and housing staff office.
*Oak Priory and Maple West only
We provide the housing management services while Eric Wright FM looks after the facilities management. There’s an on-site care team which provides care services to residents who’ve been assessed by the local authority. A range of care packages are available from none or very low, through to high care packages of 15 hours or more a week.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has 100% nomination rights for all lettings, which are available to people predominantly aged 55 and over. Those aged under 55 with a care need are considered by the allocations panel, made up of us, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the care provider.
